The funeral mass for Pope Francis has just ended, BBC notes.
On Saturday, April 26, Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re, Dean of the College of Cardinals, celebrated the Holy Mass of the funeral of Pope Francis in St. Peter's Square in the Vatican. During the Eucharistic service, he delivered a sermon.
In the part of the last farewell, the Dean of the College of Cardinals, Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re, entrusts the soul of the Pope to God and asks for comfort for the Roman Catholic Church. After reading more prayers, the Pope's coffin is sprinkled with holy water and incense.
Now the coffin with the Pope will be moved in a slow procession to the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome for burial.
The procession will leave the Vatican, covering a 6-kilometer route across the Tiber River.
Then it will pass through the center of Rome to Piazza Venezia, passing the Colosseum before turning north to reach the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore.
The public will only be able to follow the procession past barriers in the streets, not directly behind it.
Local officials report that three thousand volunteers are located along the route to provide directions, medical assistance and water to pilgrims.
The burial inside the church will not be open to the public, although crowds are already gathering outside.
