The Danube Commission has decided to create a Register of Damages from Russian aggression in the Lower Danube. This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration of Ukraine - Minister for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine Oleksiy Kuleba, reports UNN.

Details

According to Kuleba, at the 104th session of the Danube Commission, the decision initiated by Ukraine to create the Register was supported by the majority of participating countries. A resolution on Russia's violation of the Belgrade Convention as a result of military actions was also adopted. These are important steps for the protection of Ukraine and justice on the Danube.

Russian attacks on Ukrainian Danube ports are not only the destruction of infrastructure, vessels and cargo. This is a direct blow to international logistics, navigation safety and freedom of movement on the Danube. Therefore, the creation of the Register is a gradual bringing of the aggressor to justice: it will ensure systematic collection and generalization of data on the damages caused, their transfer to the Council of Europe and the European Union, and the formation of an international legal basis for compensation for damages.

- the official said.

Kuleba thanked the partners - Austria, Germany, Croatia, Moldova, Romania and Slovakia - for supporting this decision. This is a manifestation of real solidarity and understanding that security on the Danube is a shared responsibility.

Russia has already been removed from participation in the Danube Commission. Today's decision is another step towards its further international isolation and the protection of the principles of international law. Ukraine will continue to consistently work to ensure that every crime of the aggressor is recorded and has inevitable consequences.
