Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) officers have dismantled another mobilization evasion scheme in the Kyiv region. Perpetrators who "profited" from draft dodgers under the guise of charitable foundations were detained. This was reported by UNN with reference to the SBU.
Details
The investigation established that the illegal activity was organized by two heads of local charitable foundations and their accomplice, an unemployed resident of Kyiv.
The suspects offered conscripts several options for evading the draft for 16,000 US dollars.
One method of implementing the scheme was fictitious employment at a critical infrastructure enterprise with subsequent receipt of a draft deferment. Another direction was organizing the escape of draft dodgers across the western border, bypassing checkpoints. To achieve this, the scheme's organizers planned to use their "guides" in Ukraine's border regions who are well-acquainted with the mountainous terrain and water bodies outside the checkpoints
The suspects were caught "red-handed" after receiving part of a bribe from a client. During searches, smartphones, flash drives, forged documents, and other physical evidence of the scheme were discovered and seized.
The detained suspects have been notified of suspicion under Part 3 of Art. 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal transportation of persons across the state border of Ukraine, committed by an organized group). They face up to 9 years in prison with confiscation of property.
Recall
The Security Service and the National Police exposed the head of an NGO and a former Territorial Recruitment Center (TRC) official in Uzhhorod for selling summonses for deferment. The cost of the service ranged from 800 to 2,000 dollars per document.
