NATO will increase its military presence in the Baltic Sea after the damage to submarine cables, Alliance Secretary General Mark Rutte said on social network X after a conversation with Finnish President Alexander Stubb, UNN reports.

"I spoke with Alexander Stubb about the ongoing Finnish-led investigation into the possible sabotage of submarine cables. I expressed my full solidarity and support. NATO will increase its military presence in the Baltic Sea," Rutte wrote.

Earlier, after damaging a communication cable in the Baltic Sea, Finland launched an investigation into the oil tanker Eagle S, which is called part of Russia's "shadow fleet" that helps Moscow circumvent sanctions on oil sales. The Eagle S departed under the Cook Islands flag from a Russian port and was carrying oil to Egypt, according to media reports.
