In Israel, protests erupted in many cities over Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's decision to dismiss Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.

According to Israeli media, some protesters set fire to the Ayalon highway and blocked traffic in both directions. One of the protesters, Yair Amit, said that Netanyahu was endangering the entire country and called on the Prime Minister to “step down and let serious people run Israel.

Many protesters on the streets called on Netanyahu to resign and demanded that the new defense minister prioritize the hostage deal.

It is also reported that about 40 people were arrested in Tel Aviv after street protests against the decision to release Gallant.

Israeli opposition leaders Yair Lapid, Benny Gantz, Avigdor Lieberman and Yair Golan held a press conference in the Knesset regarding the decision of the country's prime minister.

Netanyahu said that a “crisis of confidence” between officials led him to the decision to fire Gallant, adding that his trust in the now-ex-head of the defense establishment had “eroded” in recent months.

Gallant said his removal from office was due to disagreements over three issues, including his belief that the hostages remaining in Gaza could be returned if Israel made “painful concessions” that he “could bear.

Earlier, UNN reported that law enforcement officers detained at least three people in Jerusalem for “attacking police and breaking through barriers” where protesters gathered near Netanyahu's residence, according to a police statement.
