Conservatives in Lithuania are proposing to build a high-tech defense line on the border with Russia and Belarus, designed to protect the state from a possible invasion. This is reported by Delfi, writes UNN.

Details

The Lithuanian party Union of the Fatherland – Lithuanian Christian Democrats (TS-LKD) proposes to build a security barrier named after Vytautas the Great on the eastern border of the country.

According to conservatives, it may include defense lines equipped with anti-personnel mines, anti-tank ditches, mobile armored groups and long-range artillery. The implementation of such a plan will cost approximately EUR 1 billion.

Our military engineering has been revived, our military engineering has gained a new lease of life. Today, we are proposing another idea, another direction, how we could strengthen the border in such a way that it would be extremely difficult for the enemy to penetrate our territory, that he would face huge obstacles, that we would slow down his advance. Undoubtedly, this plan would complement our entire defense strategy

- said the head of the party, Laurynas Kasciunas.

According to Kasciunas, the process of building the defense line will take up to two years. It will depend on legal issues and funding.
