A mass mailing of fake emails disguised as official messages from the Ministry of Energy and the State Energy Supervision Inspectorate is being sent to Kyiv residents' email addresses. This is reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (CCD), reports UNN.
Details
It is noted that the attackers intimidate consumers by claiming that a "critical discrepancy between distributed and metered capacity" has allegedly been detected at their addresses. At the same time, the messages emphasize that this incident has already been classified as unauthorized interference with the metering device or the use of uncertified equipment.
These messages are fake. The Ministry of Energy does not have the authority to conduct such inspections and never sends such letters, and the State Energy Supervision has not conducted any remote analysis of consumption balance,
There, it was noted that the goal of the fraudsters is to intimidate citizens, sow panic, and create social tension in society. At the same time, in addition to psychological pressure, such letters may contain malicious hyperlinks to steal personal data.
"If you receive such a letter, do not click on the links under any circumstances and immediately contact your distribution system operator (oblenergo), the Ministry of Energy hotline, or the State Energy Supervision for verification," the CCD urged.
Reminder
Fraudulent messages about monetary compensation for prolonged power outages are being spread on social media. Clicking the link leads to a phishing site designed to steal banking data.
