Kyiv privately informed U.S. President Donald Trump's administration that Russia will not be able to seize the remaining parts of Donetsk Oblast controlled by Ukraine even in 2027. This is reported by the Kyiv Independent, citing a document submitted to the Trump administration by Ukraine's embassy in Washington, UNN reports.

According to the document, Kyiv claims that Russia's battlefield gains have slowed so sharply that Moscow may find it difficult to achieve its territorial objectives by force.
This assessment comes as Moscow continues to demand that Ukraine withdraw from territory in Donetsk Oblast as part of the U.S.-led peace process. Ukraine still controls between 21% and 22% of Donetsk Oblast, meaning that slightly more than one-fifth of the region remains outside Russia's control
The document says that Russia's territorial advance has slowed to less than 100 square kilometers per month. At this pace, the authors state, the implementation of Moscow's stated goals is "potentially" postponed until after 2027.
This assessment calls into question one of the Kremlin's arguments in the peace process: that Ukraine should give up territory because Russia will eventually seize it by force anyway
The media outlet, citing an unnamed White House official, claims that the White House has already reviewed Kyiv's assessment of the situation in the war. According to him, Trump "and his team" will continue "to play a constructive role in ending the war between Russia and Ukraine, and he remains optimistic that we will ultimately reach a peace agreement."
