On Sunday, December 15, the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the closure of the diplomatic mission, accusing Ireland of “anti-Semitic” initiatives and stating that Dublin had “crossed all the red lines.

Diplomatic relations between Ireland and Israel have deteriorated following a series of actions, including Dublin's recognition of the state of Palestine and support for South Africa's lawsuit in the International Court of Justice, which accuses Israel of “genocide” in the Gaza Strip.

This happened against the backdrop of Israel's war with Hamas, which began on October 7, 2023, after a large-scale attack by the Palestinian Islamist movement on Israeli territory. In the spring, Ireland, along with Norway and Spain, recognized the state of Palestine, which provoked a harsh reaction from Israel.

“The decision to close the Israeli embassy in Dublin was made in light of the extreme anti-Israeli actions of the Irish government,” the Israeli ministry added. Ireland regrets the “decision, which is deeply regrettable.
