How does the image of a medical institution affect its financial performance?

In 2025, Odrex Clinic received over UAH 37.5 million in budget funds under NHCU contracts, but its revenues and profits sharply decreased. Against the backdrop of a growing medical market, this may indicate a loss of patient trust due to public scandals and criminal proceedings in which Odrex is involved.

In 2025, the private clinic Odrex received over UAH 37.5 million in budget funds under the Medical Guarantees Program, which is equivalent to almost $1 million. At the same time, the overall financial performance of the medical institution worsened that same year, despite a significant increase in earnings for other market players. UNN investigated whether this could indicate a loss of patient trust in the Odrex clinic amid public scandals.

In private medicine, image is one of the key factors for survival. After all, a patient entrusts their health, and often their life, to a clinic. Therefore, for a private medical institution, reputation is part of its capital. If a clinic accumulates criminal proceedings, public accusations of medical negligence, and even forms a separate public movement of people dissatisfied with treatment there, it becomes increasingly difficult to speak of high public trust in such an institution. And the situation with the private clinic Odrex is one example of how a possible decrease in patient trust in a medical institution is reflected in its financial performance.

As UNN previously reported, "Dim Medytsyny" company, which is part of the Odrex brand, reduced its revenue by 24% in 2025 – to UAH 839 million. Profit decreased even more significantly – by 44% and amounted to UAH 73 million.

This decline is even more indicative when compared to other market players, who, on the contrary, showed growth in 2025. Nine out of ten companies increased their turnover, sometimes very significantly. For example, "Dobrobut" clinic increased its revenue by 27%, the laboratory network "Dila" by 30%, and "Synevo" by 39%. These figures indicate that the demand for private medicine in Ukraine is growing. And the fall in Odrex's financial indicators is an exception to the rules of modern medical market trends.

Even numerous contracts with the NHSU did not help the clinic stay afloat. As UNN previously reported, in 2025, within the framework of the Medical Guarantees Program, the National Health Service of Ukraine transferred over UAH 37.5 million in budget funds to Odrex – an amount that, converted at the exchange rate at the time, is almost $1 million.

Recall

A high-profile court case is ongoing in Ukraine regarding the death of patient Adnan Kivan during treatment at the Odesa clinic Odrex. Doctors Vitaliy Rusakov and Maryna Bielotserkovska are in the dock, accused of improper performance of professional duties, which could have led to the patient's death (Part 1, Article 140 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

According to the investigation, after the surgical intervention, the patient was not prescribed the necessary antibacterial therapy, and proper response to postoperative complications was not ensured. As a result, as established by forensic medical examination, the patient developed sepsis, which could have caused his death.

The court must determine whether the doctors' actions deviated from medical protocols and whether there is a causal link between the treatment and the patient's death. The next court hearing is scheduled for May 5, 2026.
