Musk travels frequently and is known to stay with friends. In San Francisco, he stayed at the home of David Sachs, a venture capitalist who was recently appointed by Trump as an advisor on cryptocurrencies and artificial intelligence. In Hawaii, he stayed at billionaire Larry Ellison's home on the island of Lanai.
Mar-a-Lago, however, is different because it is a commercial enterprise owned by Trump, not a private home.
Trump's spokesman did not respond to an email seeking comment on the deal, The New York Times reports. Musk also did not respond to an email seeking comment on the deal.
It is unlikely that Musk will have such unlimited physical access to Trump after the president-elect takes office on January 20 in Washington. Getting into and out of the West Wing of the White House is more difficult than getting into Trump's private clubs, as is access to the presidential residence.
