The IAEA Director General stated that the risk of a nuclear catastrophe has risen to Cold War levels. This is attributed to the war in Europe and the pressure on the security system.

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi stated that the risk of a nuclear catastrophe has risen to a level not seen since the Cold War. These words were spoken during the 11th Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons taking place in New York, UNN reports with reference to Grossi's post on the social network "X".

War has returned to Europe and the Middle East, and the multilateral frameworks that ensure peace and security are under immense pressure. In today's nuclear sphere, we face a fragile standoff, with more actors, greater risks, and less clarity

- Grossi stated.

The IAEA Director General noted that the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) has been in force for over five decades.

At the heart of this treaty is a safeguards system which, through a reliable, fair, and impartial verification system, ensures that nuclear materials are not used for military purposes instead of peaceful ones
