Ursula von der Leyen and António Costa called Russia's provocations against the Baltics unacceptable. The EU will strengthen defense and pressure on the aggressor due to these threats.

The EU has called Russia's threats to the Baltic states "absolutely unacceptable" and a "threat to the entire Union." Such statements were made on Wednesday by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President António Costa, UNN reports.

Russia's public threats to the Baltic states are absolutely unacceptable. Let there be no doubt. A threat to one member state is a threat to our entire Union. Russia and Belarus bear direct responsibility for the drones that threaten the lives and safety of people on our eastern flank. Europe will respond with unity and strength

- von der Leyen noted on X.

The President of the European Commission emphasized: "We will continue to strengthen the security of our eastern flank through strong collective defense and readiness at every level."

She was joined by European Council President António Costa.

Russia's current threats and provocations against the Baltic states are unacceptable. They are part of Russia's hybrid warfare tactics and pose a threat to the European Union as a whole. The European Union remains strong and united. We will accelerate our joint efforts to strengthen our defense capabilities. We will also increase pressure on Russia to end its unjustified and unprovoked war of aggression against Ukraine

- Costa wrote on X.

As a reminder

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte also stated that Russian claims regarding Latvia and the Baltic states are "absolutely absurd, and Russia knows it," when asked about Russia's escalating rhetoric and threats toward Latvia and the Baltic states.

Russia has claimed that Latvia and potentially other Baltic countries are going to give Ukraine permission to attack Russia from their territory using drones. Latvia and Ukraine have repeatedly rejected these claims as "lies."
