Pyongyang has amended its constitution to allow for a nuclear strike in the event of Kim Jong Un's assassination. The decision was made following the death of Iran's supreme leader as a result of attacks.

North Korea has amended its constitution, according to which its military is obliged to launch a retaliatory nuclear strike if Kim Jong Un is killed by a foreign adversary, UNN reports, citing The Telegraph.

According to media reports, the changes were made after Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of Iran, and many of his closest advisors were killed in strikes at the beginning of joint US-Israeli attacks on the regime in Tehran.

The revised constitution was adopted at the first session of the 15th Supreme People's Assembly, which opened on March 22 in Pyongyang. It was unveiled on Thursday at a briefing for senior members of the South Korean government by its National Intelligence Service (NIS).

According to the NIS briefing, Kim commands the North's nuclear forces, but the changes codify procedures for retaliatory attacks in the event of his incapacitation or death.

The revised Article 3 of the nuclear policy law states: "If the command and control system of the state's nuclear forces is placed in danger due to attacks by hostile forces... a nuclear strike shall be launched automatically and immediately."
