The administration of US President Joe Biden is considering approving the sale of 50 F-15 fighter jets to Israel for more than $18 billion, CNN reports, citing sources, UNN reports.
Details
It is noted that if the sale of military equipment takes place, it will be the largest since October 7, 2023, when Hamas attacked Israel.
According to Politico, Israel will also receive 30 AIM-120D AMRAAM medium-range air-to-air missiles and JDAM guided air bombs.
In late January, the Biden administration sent an informal notification to Congress - to the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. According to one CNN source, committee chairmen James Risch and Michael McCaul preliminarily approved the deal.
CNN notes that, unlike precision-guided munitions, the new F-15s will have to be assembled from scratch and are likely to be delivered no sooner than four years from now. Last week, the Biden administration also approved the sale of F-35 fighter jets to Israel; in this case, no congressional notification is required.
