The United Kingdom will provide Ukraine with a new military aid package worth $996 million, which will include long-range shells, drones, missiles, and air defense radars. This was stated by UK Secretary of State for Defence Dan Jarvis during the opening of the Ramstein-format Contact Group meeting, UNN reports.
"What kind of defense are we providing today? First of all, it is $1 billion for PURL packages. Another $1 billion for 200,000 long-range 155mm shells, $650 million for 100 critical Patriot missiles. Another $1 billion for 1 million Ukrainian drones,"
He added that he had agreed with Ukraine's Minister of Defense Mykhailo Fedorov that the UK would provide 150,000 drones, as well as 350 missiles and air defense radars.
The Secretary emphasized that all of this will be delivered by the end of the year as part of a package funded through the sale of confiscated Russian assets via the ERA loan program.
Context
As stated by the UK government, the country will provide Ukraine with 150,000 drones by the end of the year as part of a £752 million funding package to help Ukraine defend its freedom and sovereignty.
The package, funded by the UK through a £2.26 billion Extraordinary Revenue Acceleration (ERA) loan, provides Ukraine with equipment urgently needed to fight Russia's war of aggression. The loan is backed by profits from immobilized Russian sovereign assets, which the Chancellor announced last year. This package includes the delivery of over 350 missiles and air defense radars, including Lightweight Multirole Missiles (LMM) and ground-based radar systems, by the end of 2026. Putin continues his barbaric air attacks on civilian targets, and air defense radars and missiles are crucial for Ukraine's defense,
As a reminder
The defense ministers of Germany and Ukraine signed an agreement that paves the way for the joint development of a new air defense system to shoot down ballistic missiles.
