Military expert Oleh Zhdanov, commenting on the possible authorization of Ukraine to strike Russia with long-range missiles, noted that the United States delayed this decision for almost a year and explained why. Military expert Oleh Zhdanov said this in a commentary to UNN.
Do you remember when someone in the military experts said that the best air defense in Russia is Joe Biden? The authorization to use missiles was delayed for almost a year. We don't have missiles, we have the permission, but we don't have missiles. Neither British nor French. We have already fired everything they gave us, and we don't have ATACMS. So when they will appear is a huge question
He noted that today, according to intelligence, Russia has actually removed all the reserves in the immediate vicinity.
“They left warehouses and transshipment bases, hubs more than 300 kilometers from our border. So now, if they allow us to hit the refineries, it will be good, if they allow us to hit the factories, it will be good, but there are very few military facilities left,” Zhdanov said.
The expert also noted that the fact that the permission was first announced in the media is a disadvantage, because first there should be combat use, and then an announcement about it.
They did it the other way around, usually first there is a combat use, and then they announce that we have used such and such a type of weapon, achieved such and such success, and now we have announced it. Yesterday, the Russian press came out with maps of the possible areas of impact of these missiles. Do you think the Russian General Staff has taken action? I think so and have been thinking so for a long time. And now we are happy about the permission, we have announced everything, the enemy has been warned, and now we will sit down and wait for the missiles to come
Military expert Valeriy Ryabykh in a commentary to UNN emphasized that so far we have an information surge and refer not to official sources but to the media regarding the authorization of strikes deep into Russia.
Ryabykh noted that the Russians have adapted and built their logistics in such a way that there would be as little damage to their critical infrastructure, which is used to provide logistical support for the troops.
“Accordingly, now getting new means with which we can strike will significantly reduce the aggressor's purely military capabilities, supply of troops, and this may affect what is happening directly on the front line. When the troops do not receive all the logistical support, including ammunition and food, in sufficient quantities. This may result in strikes on their warehouses and bases that supply the troops,” Ryabykh said.
He also noted that the task of strikes at a distance of 300 kilometers will include strikes on airfields used by enemy tactical aircraft to support enemy troops on the line of fire, on the line of contact.
“Further strikes with long-range weapons in the depths of the territory may hit enterprises that may be involved in the production of certain munitions,” Ryabykh said.
The expert summarized that everything will depend not only on the permission, but also on a set of factors, including the availability of appropriate weapons to strike deep into Russia.
AddendumAddendum
The New York Times reports that US President Joe Biden has authorized Ukraine to use long-range missiles to strike Russian territory.
According to U.S. officials, the weapons are likely to be used initially against Russian and North Korean troops to protect Ukrainian forces in the Kursk region of western Russia.
Le Figaro reported that France and Britain allowed Ukraine to strike at Russia with SCALP/Storm Shadow missiles.
However, Le Figaro later removed from the article the line that France and the United Kingdom had authorized missiles to be fired at Russia.
