Thousands of people from different cities of Serbia, Kosovo and Bosnia gathered in Belgrade for a rally organized in support of President Aleksandar Vucic. This is reported by Reuters, reports UNN.

Details

This event was a response to numerous anti-corruption protests that have been taking place in the country for several months and threatened his political position.

The rally took place in the center of the capital, where for the convenience of participants, food stalls with fast food and drinks were organized, and several main streets were closed to traffic. This event was a direct response to the mass protest that took place on March 15, when more than 100,000 people took to the streets in the largest demonstration in the last decade.

The protests began after the tragedy that occurred due to the collapse of the roof at the railway station, which killed 16 people. This event became a catalyst for accusations of corruption and negligence at high levels of government, which led to large-scale protests. Activists, including students, teachers and farmers, accuse Vucic of failing to fulfill his promises and abusing his power.

Before the crowd of his supporters, Vucic stated that the "color revolution" will not succeed, emphasizing that his opponents can hold rallies as much as they want, but this will not change the situation. This speech also became an occasion to announce a new political initiative, which will be led by the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS). It aims to unite other parties of the ruling coalition within the framework of a new movement, although the official inauguration has not yet taken place.

The rally in Belgrade also received support from Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who made a video address, where he emphasized the support of Hungarian patriots to Serbian like-minded people.
