Ukraine creates group to develop spelling of Crimean Tatar language

Ukraine has set up a working group to create a Latin-based spelling of the Crimean Tatar language, which aims to complete its work by September 30, 2024, to facilitate learning and popularize the language.
A working group has been set up in Ukraine to develop a spelling of the Crimean Tatar language based on the Latin alphabet. This was reported by the Ministry of Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine, UNN reports.

Today, a regular meeting of the National Commission on the Crimean Tatar Language was held under the co-chairmanship of Vice Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk.
The meeting was attended by the co-chairs of the National Commission: Permanent Representative of the President in the ARC Tamila Tasheva, Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Refat Chubarov, as well as representatives of state bodies and linguists from educational institutions.

The agency said that the participants discussed the status of the project of spelling the Crimean Tatar language using the alphabet of this language based on the Latin script.
A representative of the State Service for Ethnic Policy and Freedom of Conscience (DESS) reported the creation of a working group to develop the spelling. The group includes linguists, as well as representatives of the scientific community from the Crimean Tatar people. They will work on developing an official spelling of the Crimean Tatar language based on the Latin alphabet.

The Ministry of Reintegration emphasized that according to the Government's order, the draft spelling of the Crimean Tatar language based on the Latin script should be developed by September 30, 2024.
It is noted that the SES and the Ministry of Education and Science are responsible for developing the spelling.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories Iryna Vereshchuk stated that the new spelling is necessary to protect and popularize the Crimean Tatar language.
To protect and popularize the Crimean Tatar language, the introduction of a new spelling is an extremely necessary solution. The use of the Latin alphabet will make it easier for ethnic Crimean Tatars and everyone else to learn the language.
