Track and field athlete Oleh Doroshchuk and skeleton racer Yaroslav Lavreniuk have been named the best athletes of March by the NOC of Ukraine, the committee reported on Wednesday, UNN writes.

Details

"Track and field athlete Oleh Doroshchuk — the world indoor high jump champion — has been recognized as the best athlete of March," the NOC reported.

At the world championships in Toruń, Poland, Oleh demonstrated great consistency, clearing the 2.30 m height on his first attempt, which earned him the coveted gold. Notably, this is Ukraine's first medal in the men's high jump at the World Indoor Championships in the last 12 years.

"Hennadii Zditovetskyi, the personal coach of Oleh Doroshchuk, has been named the best coach of March," the statement reads.

"The Commission chose skeleton racer Yaroslav Lavreniuk — the junior world champion in two age categories simultaneously, U20 and U23 — as the best young athlete of March," the NOC indicated.

At the competitions in Altenberg, Germany, the 18-year-old Ukrainian won convincingly based on the sum of two runs, demonstrating a high level of skill and consistency. These gold medals were historic for Ukraine.

"The Commission members chose Serhii Lavreniuk — the personal coach and father of Yaroslav Lavreniuk — as the best coach of a young athlete for March," the statement said.

As noted, the winners of the traditional "Best Athlete of the Month" contest were determined after analyzing the performances of Ukrainian athletes at international competitions on March 31 at a meeting of the Expert Commission of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine.

The laureates of the sporting month will receive monetary prizes, exclusive statuettes, and commemorative plaques from the NOC of Ukraine during a formal award ceremony.
