Trump was asked to explain why officials are going and what the desired outcome is at his cabinet meeting on Monday.
"Yes, well, not a provocation. This is friendliness, not provocation," Trump said, saying officials were invited to the event.
"I think Greenland will become something that may be in our future," he added.
