Earlier, Trump claimed that his global tariff policy was a "war with the world." But then the American leader retreated and added that "it's not quite a war," because representatives of other countries come to the United States for negotiations.

"I really think that the war with the world, which is not quite a war, because they all come here. Japan is coming here as we speak. They're flying in a plane, a lot of them. All tough negotiators," the US president said at the National Republican Congressional Committee dinner in Washington.

The publication notes that Trump later added that countries are calling him and "kissing my ass" to try to strike a trade deal, avoiding duties.

"They are dying to make a deal. Please, please, sir, make a deal. I'll do anything, sir," Trump added.
