The US has selected companies to develop the "Golden Dome"

The US Space Force has published a list of companies that will work on creating orbital interceptors as part of the "Golden Dome" missile defense system. This involves 12 contractors with whom 20 contracts have been signed totaling about $3.2 billion. Ars Technica reports this, writes UNN.

Details

The list includes companies Anduril Industries, Booz Allen Hamilton, General Dynamics Mission Systems, GITAI USA, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Quindar, Raytheon, Sci-Tec, SpaceX, True Anomaly, and Turion Space.

Contracts were signed at the end of 2025 – beginning of 2026 under the mechanism of so-called other transaction agreements, which allows the Pentagon to attract contractors faster and bypass standard procurement procedures.

This concerns early stages of development and prototype creation, not full-scale production. The project involves a combination of public and private funding to prepare for tests in low Earth orbit.

The Space Force stated that details regarding each company's contribution are not disclosed due to security requirements.

Various roles of contractors

The program involves both major defense and space companies and new players. In particular, SpaceX, Lockheed Martin, and Northrop Grumman have experience in the space sector, while Anduril and True Anomaly position themselves as innovative developers in the field of national security.

Other companies specialize in software, data processing, communications, and space technologies.

The adversary's capabilities are developing rapidly, and our acquisition strategies must move even faster

– stated Brion McLean, executive director of the space combat capabilities program.

Project timelines and scale

It is expected that the system's initial capabilities can be demonstrated in 2028. At the same time, experts note that creating orbital interceptors is one of the most complex and expensive elements of the "Golden Dome".

The system is to become a multi-layered US defense against ballistic, hypersonic, cruise missiles, and drones, using space technologies and artificial intelligence.
