According to local authorities, at least 15 people have died and more than 100 have been injured in a disco roof collapse in the Dominican Republic's capital on Tuesday morning.
According to Juan Manuel Mendez, director of the Emergency Operations Center, rescuers are searching for potential survivors in the rubble in Santo Domingo.
"We assume that many of them are still alive, and that is why the authorities here will not give up until there is no one left under this rubble," he said.
According to officials, among the injured is merengue performer Rubby Perez, who was performing during the performance when the roof collapsed.
President Luis Abinader wrote in X that all rescue services are "working tirelessly" to help those affected.
"We deeply regret the tragedy that occurred at the Jet Set nightclub. We have been following the incident every minute since it happened," he wrote.
At one of the hospitals where the injured were taken, an employee stood outside reading aloud the names of the survivors, as a crowd gathered around her shouting the names of their loved ones.
