The release of a new documentary about Denys Monastyrsky "Unfinished Flight" is announced
The release of a new documentary about Denys Monastyrskyi, Unfinished Flight, has been announced. The film was shot to mark the anniversary of the tragedy that took place on January 18, 2023 in Brovary near the kindergarten building, where the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Denys Monastyrskyi and his first deputy Yevhen Yenin died as a result of the crash of a helicopter carrying the leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.
The film explores the phenomenon of the former Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Denys Monastyrskyi - his values and priorities, unusual leadership style, reformist ideas that he managed to launch before the war, as well as tough, often controversial decisions that he initiated after the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Russia to defend our country.
Among the film's speakers: Valeriy Zaluzhnyi, Kyrylo Budanov, Ruslan Stefanchuk, Denys Shmyhal, Zhanna Monastyrska, Oleksiy Reznikov, Mykhailo Fedorov, Ihor Klymenko, Anton Gerashchenko, Viktor Andrusiv, Oleksandr Martynenko and many others.
In total, about 40 interviews with Monastyrsky's colleagues, friends, and family were recorded for the film, through which they reveal various aspects of the protagonist's life, his hobbies, doubts, life philosophy, and the principles he followed.
Denys Monastyrsky was an atypical Ukrainian official, he was fond of Buddhism and loved to hike in the mountains, restoring architectural monuments with his own hands.
Denys Monastyrsky became a unique phenomenon in the Ukrainian system of government, and his team, some of whom died with him in the plane crash, actually embodied the idea of ethical leadership, which is unusual for the Ukrainian government.
The film was created by Denys's friends and associates, who see their mission as stimulating public demand for politicians like Monastyrsky.
The film was created at the expense of friendly crowdfunding.
Rostyslav Smirnov, co-founder of the Dobrobat battalion and advisor to the former minister, comments: "I never saw Denys without a smile, he was always very easy-going, thoughtful, and never made hasty decisions. Whatever I suggested, he always said: "I'll think about it." When I first came to his office, not knowing Denys yet, he took me on a tour, telling me what was around and how it was. He showed me his hobby - table football. You could talk to him for hours without noticing the time at all - easy and interesting. It was thanks to people like Denys, who stood shoulder to shoulder with everyone in the early days, that we managed to save the country. It was difficult. And back then there was a minimum of publicity and a maximum of work. This is what people should know about."
The director Mykola Korotkyi has this to say about the idea of the film: "Our message is politician 2.0. Something that we are not yet ready for in our political leadership. Denys seems to be from the future, or came into our lives to set a high standard. For Monastyrsky, art was in the forefront of his life, and in all spheres of life he was an artist first. His deep legal and political knowledge, as well as his desire to work for the public good, made him a politician of the future. In his video diary, he emphasizes that we need to save culture, because it will be the only thing that can recreate the state even from the ashes. The film is full of poems and quotes, and the overarching plot is built around the sculpture of the Mother of God. This five-meter sculpture by Oleksiy Leonov is now placed in St. Sophia of Kyiv with Denys's assistance."
Screenwriter Dmytro Ternovyi adds: "Denys Monastyrskyi is a politician of a new formation for Ukraine. He is a deep, integral, strong personality who consciously entered the public service to serve citizens and change the life of Ukrainian society for the better. Monastyrsky perceived this position as a real sacrifice on his part, because it completely destroyed his usual rhythm of life, went against the interests of his family, his own interests and hobbies. It's really an amazing story about how an honest person enters a rigid structure and does not break down in it, but transforms it from the inside, "infects" this system with his own ideas, visions, and values."
