The Executive Committee of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) has adopted a decision, effective immediately, according to which athletes from Russia and Belarus of all age groups are eligible to participate in competitions. This was reported on the official IWF website, writes UNN.

It is noted that this decision was made in accordance with recent IOC recommendations regarding the principles of neutrality in sports and the importance of ensuring equal opportunities for athletes to compete at the highest international level.
In addition, this year, restrictions on participation for weightlifters of youth and junior age groups from Russia and Belarus were lifted.
These rules apply to all age categories, allowing athletes of any age group to participate in IWF competitions in accordance with the current criteria and eligibility requirements
The IWF noted that they continue to strive "to promote fair competition, protect the integrity of sport" and ensure athletes have the opportunity to compete "in conditions that meet the principles of neutrality, inclusivity, and excellence."
