Harald, the oldest of Europe's current heads of state, was hospitalized on Monday and was being treated for anemia.
"His Majesty the King's health deteriorated over the weekend. The King is receiving antibiotics for a bacterial infection in his blood and has responded to the treatment," the palace said in a statement, also noting that his condition is stable.
