"Growing humanitarian needs have been an ongoing challenge for many years. In 2023, our commitment to addressing this challenge remains unchanged. A significant allocation of 2.4 billion euros for humanitarian aid around the world," the European Commission said in X.

According to the European Commission, the largest amount of humanitarian aid - 893 million euros - was allocated to African countries, ranking them first among the recipients.

The Middle East and Turkey received 582 million euros from the EU, ranking second among the recipients of humanitarian aid.

The EU allocated €339 million for humanitarian aid to the countries of Asia, Latin America, the Pacific and the Caribbean, the third largest recipient.

Ukraine and the countries of the Western Balkans and the Caucasus received €335 million, the fourth largest amount of EU humanitarian aid.

"We have provided 785 million euros in humanitarian aid and delivered almost 100,000 tons of vital goods through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism," the European Commission said.
