The EU Council extended economic sanctions against the Russian Federation for another year

On June 25, the EU Council extended sanctions against Russia for another 12 months, until July 31, 2027. The restrictions cover trade, finance, energy, and technology.
The Council of the European Union on June 25 extended restrictive measures against Russia for another 12 months — until July 31, 2027. This is stated on the website of the EU Council, reports UNN.
This decision was made after the meeting of the European Council on June 18-19, 2026, at which EU leaders agreed to extend economic sanctions against Russia for twelve months
The EU Council recalls that the economic measures, first introduced in 2014, were significantly expanded after the start of Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022. Since then, the bloc has adopted 20 packages of sanctions.
The measures cover key sectors, including trade, finance, energy, and dual-use technologies. The sanctions also provide for a ban on the import or sea transport of crude oil and certain petroleum products from Russia to the EU, a ban on transactions for a number of financial institutions and crypto service providers in Russia and third countries. The EU has also suspended broadcasting and licenses on its territory for several "Kremlin-backed disinformation media."
The EU will maintain the current measures and is ready to take additional measures as long as the Russian Federation continues its illegal actions and violations of fundamental norms of international law, including, in particular, the prohibition on the use of force
