The National Conservation Area "St. Sophia of Kyiv" has become a full member of the Europa Nostra organization, which deals with cultural and natural heritage in Europe. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy, according to UNN.

St. Sophia of Kyiv National Conservation Area has become a full member of Europa Nostra, the voice of civil society working on cultural and natural heritage in Europe. The organization includes hundreds of member and associate organizations and dedicated individuals from all over Europe and beyond,

Such an event has a special and symbolic meaning as the organization celebrates its 60th anniversary, and 2023 was a year of consolidation and further expansion of the organization's activities for the benefit of Europe's common heritage.

The devastating consequences of Russia's aggressive war in Ukraine, in particular with regard to cultural heritage, continue to require adequate efforts at the stage of the country's recovery.

So far, the organization has raised more than €150,000 to support defenders of cultural heritage in Ukraine through a joint solidarity campaign.

In addition, in May, Europa Nostra, together with a strong team of European partners and member organizations, launched the European Heritage Hub project:

  • mobilizing stakeholders at all levels of government to promote climate action on heritage and culture;
  • attracting and reaching audiences that do not usually participate in cultural heritage events, with a special emphasis on young people;
  • fully utilizing the opportunities offered by digital transformation to make cultural heritage content, policies, initiatives, projects and news easily accessible to all.
