Slovenia will investigate possible links between President Nataša Pirc Musar and Russian intelligence. The parliamentary committee wants to receive explanations from the country’s intelligence service, while the president herself denies any cooperation with Russian intelligence networks. On Wednesday, the Slovenian parliamentary committee requested a meeting with representatives of SOVA. They plan to hear information about Nataša Pirc Musar’s possible links to Russian intelligence.
According to the publication, Žan Mahnič, a lawmaker from the ruling centre-right Slovenian Democratic Party, also called on the government to stop providing the president with intelligence and security information due to suspicions about her possible connection to a Russian spy network.
The investigation followed reports about Pirc Musar’s longtime friend Viktoria Krivolutskaya, a Slovenian citizen of Russian origin. At the end of July, Pirc Musar was hospitalized with a broken collarbone after a road accident. Krivolutskaya was also in the president’s official car at the time
In addition, according to the publication, local media reported this week on Krivolutskaya’s links to Roman Jeglič, a former Slovenian intelligence officer who fled to Russia in the mid-1990s.
Krivolutskaya later confirmed that she had been romantically involved with Jeglič and had lived with him in Russia for several years. At the same time, she said that she had not been in contact with him for more than 15 years.
