Slovak community of Transcarpathia asks the President of the European Council to support negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU

The Slovak community in Zakarpattia has appealed to EU leaders for support in opening negotiations on Ukraine's EU membership, saying the country has made significant progress in implementing the European Commission's recommendations, especially on minority rights.
Representatives of the Slovak national community of Transcarpathia have published an open appeal to the President of the European Council Charles Michel and the Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico. This was reported by the Transcarpathian Regional Association of the Slovak National Community, UNN.

Thus, they asked to support the decision to open negotiations on Ukraine's membership in the EU during the European Council meeting to be held on December 14-15, 2023.
In their appeal, representatives of the Slovak national community in Zakarpattia stated that over the past year, Ukraine has demonstrated significant progress in implementing the recommendations of the European Commission on ensuring the rights of national minorities. Therefore, Ukrainian Slovaks called on all leaders of the European Union member states to continue to support Ukraine on its path to European integration.

This progress in securing democracy and minority rights is an integral part of the Copenhagen criteria for membership, and we believe that Ukraine deserves to be supported in its efforts in this direction
The letter also states that even during the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, Ukraine continues to implement the necessary reforms and remains committed to its European integration values.
The appeal was signed by the head of the public organization "Society of Slovak Intelligentsia of Transcarpathia" Ernest Horvat.
