The German SPD will include in its election program a clause refusing to provide Ukraine with Taurus missiles. The party supports the chancellor's decision and promises to continue to assist Ukraine in other ways.
The Social Democratic Party of the current German Chancellor (SPD) Olaf Scholz may include in its election program a separate clause to refuse to provide Ukraine with long-range Taurus missiles. This was reported by the Berliner Morgenpost, according to UNN.
Details
In the program, according to media reports, the country's Social Democrats promise to help Ukraine for as long as it is needed.
The SPD is clearly committed to diplomatic, military, financial and humanitarian support for Ukrainians in their fight against Russian aggression, which violates international law, for as long as it takes. Ukraine must be able to negotiate on an equal footing with Russia.
The draft program states that the SPD supports the training of the Ukrainian armed forces and the supply of weapons and equipment with “prudence and a sense of proportion” in order to defend Ukraine and ensure peace in Europe.
At the same time, the SPD notes that the aid should be such that Germany and NATO do not have to become involved in the war.
“That is why we support the decision of Chancellor Olaf Scholz not to supply Taurus cruise missiles from Bundeswehr warehouses,” the program states.
Recall
German Chancellor Scholz refuses to provide Ukraine with long-range Taurus missiles to avoid a conflict with Russia. Opposition leader Merz is in favor of transferring the missiles to strike Russian military targets.
