Russia uses religious manipulation in its information-psychological operations (IPSO) against families of missing persons. This was reported by Artur Dobroserdov, Commissioner for Persons Missing Under Special Circumstances, as conveyed by UNN with reference to the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

According to the Commissioner, fraudulent and propaganda resources initially contact families and offer alleged "help in the search."
In particular, lists of persons allegedly held captive or in temporarily occupied territories are distributed, after which it is suggested to contact special bots or accounts. Subsequently, families are presented with so-called "confirmation conditions": taking photos with notes (often near churches), recording videos with prayers, or making public appeals. Such actions are elements of manipulation
