Romania plans to sign the first contract for the purchase of F-35 fighters from the United States

Romania is planning to sign a $6.5 billion deal to purchase 32 F-35 fighter jets from US manufacturer Lockheed Martin, with the first aircraft expected to be delivered no earlier than 2030.
Romania expects to sign an agreement between the government and the United States on the purchase of the latest generation of F-35 fighter jets this fall, the country's Defense Ministry said on Tuesday, UNN reports citing Reuters.

In September, it was reported that Romania plans to purchase 32 F-35 fighter jets from the US manufacturer Lockheed Martin (LMT.N) for $6.5 billion. The deal includes logistics and training services, flight simulators and ammunition, as well as fighter jets.
Defense Minister Angel Tilvar said that the first aircraft would be delivered no earlier than 2030.
Meanwhile, Romania has purchased 32 used F-16 fighter jets from Norway, in addition to the 17 purchased from Portugal in 2016.
