Mount Etna on the Italian island of Sicily spewed lava and smoke on Friday, Catania airport is operating as usual, UNN reports citing ANSA.

According to the publication, Etna put on a show by spewing a lava fountain from the southeastern crater and a high plume of smoke.
Volcanic activity, which the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) called "normal," could be observed in Taormina and Catania.
The eruption reportedly did not affect the operation of the nearest airport in Catania.
