First, two small boats approached the vessel west of the town of Al-Hudaydah, one with three to five people on board and the other with about ten. A “short firefight” with small arms took place. The merchant ship was then fired upon, ORF reports.
The Houthis have not yet claimed responsibility for the attack. This area has been the scene of attacks by Yemeni Houthi rebels for several months, UKMTO reminds.
