KIIS: Ukrainians trust Zelenskyi, Zaluzhnyi and the Armed Forces the most, while criticism of the government is growing
Kyiv • UNN
Confidence in Ukraine's state institutions has declined: the rating of trust in the President has fallen from 84% to 62%, while distrust in the Verkhovna Rada and the government has increased sharply. The Armed Forces and volunteers retain a high level of trust.
Compared to December 2022, criticism of the authorities has increased in Ukraine today. At the same time, almost all Ukrainians trust volunteers and the Armed Forces. This is evidenced by a survey conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS), UNN reports.
Details
In particular, the share of those who trust the Verkhovna Rada decreased from 35% to 15%, while the share of those who do not trust it increased from 34% to 61%. Also, trust in the Government decreased from 52% to 26%, while distrust increased from 19% to 44%.
Although there is also a downward trend in the case of the President, he retains overwhelming trust among the Ukrainian public. Thus, 62% currently trust the President, while 18% do not. In December 2022, 84% trusted the President, while 5% did not. Accordingly, while the balance of trust and distrust in December 2022 for the President was +80%, it is now +42%. That is, on the one hand, we see a significant decline, but on the other hand, it remains clearly positive with a significant prevalence of those who trust the President compared to those who do not
At the same time, the Armed Forces retain absolute trust in society - just as in December 2022, 96% trust the Armed Forces now. In addition, 88% of Ukrainians trust V. Zaluzhnyi (only 4% do not).
The poll also shows a decline in trust in the SBU, but the majority of Ukrainians trust it - 58% against 16% who do not (in December 2022, 63% trusted the SBU, 9% did not).
At the same time, trust in the police has decreased more significantly - from 58% in December 2022 to 41% now (distrust has increased from 14% to 29%).
Addendum
Trust in the courts and prosecutors is critically low, with a significant deterioration compared to last year.
Only 12% of Ukrainians trust the courts and only 9% trust prosecutors. The respective figures for distrust are 61% and 64%. In December 2022, 25% trusted the courts and 21% trusted prosecutors, but more importantly, there were significantly fewer (two times) people who did not trust them.
At the same time, there is a high level of trust in volunteers in Ukraine - 84% trust them and only 3% do not trust them (in December 2022, the figures were almost identical).
At the same time, the survey results show that the Ukrainian media have significantly lost trust, with trust indicators returning to the level of December 2021. Thus, over the past year, the number of those who trust the Ukrainian media has decreased from 57% to 29% (while the number of those who distrust them has increased from 14% to 40%).
In addition, the church is steadily losing public trust. Between December 2021 and December 2022, trust in the church decreased from 51% to 44%, and between December 2022 and December 2023 - from 44% to 38%.
The KIIS noted that criticism of the government has increased in all regions, although in all regions the majority trust the President. In addition, in all regions, the vast majority of people trust the Armed Forces, V. Zaluzhnyi and volunteers.
Recall
Compared to February 2023, the number of people who believe that Russia retains a significant reserve of resources and can wage war against Ukraine for many years has increased from 22% to 49%.
The most significant increase in the prevalence of this opinion is observed among residents of the southern and eastern regions.
