In Mykolaiv Oblast, a 3-year-old boy died from carbon monoxide poisoning while his father was drinking.

A 33-year-old father left his child unattended in the house while he consumed alcohol in the yard. Investigators informed the man of suspicion for malicious non-fulfillment of child care duties and leaving in danger, which led to death. He faces up to eight years in prison. The incident occurred on the evening of April 1 in the village of Myhiivska community. The Pervomaisk district police department received a report from medics stating that they had confirmed the death of a three-year-old boy in one of the residential buildings.

The leadership of the district police department, an investigative and operational group, operatives, juvenile prevention inspectors, a forensic expert, and rescuers immediately arrived at the scene.

During the inspection of the premises, law enforcement officers found the child's body, a burnt wall, and a charred sofa mattress in one of the rooms. The forensic medical expert did not find external signs of violent death during the examination of the body

During the initial investigative actions, police established that the man left his three-year-old son alone in the house, while he himself consumed alcoholic beverages on the property. The medics were informed of the incident by the deceased boy's grandmother and grandfather.

To establish the final cause of death, the body was sent for forensic medical examination. According to preliminary conclusions, the child died as a result of carbon monoxide poisoning.

Police detained the man in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. According to the results of a medical examination, he had 2.15 per mille of alcohol in his blood.

Investigators, under the procedural guidance of the Pervomaisk District Prosecutor's Office, informed the detainee of suspicion under Article 166 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine ("Malicious non-fulfillment of child care duties, which led to grave consequences") and Part 3 of Article 135 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine ("Leaving in danger, which led to death").

The sanctions of these articles provide for punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to eight years.

Currently, the court has chosen a preventive measure for the suspect — detention without the possibility of bail.
