A criminal case has been opened in Russia against writer Boris Akunin for allegedly spreading false information about the Russian army and promoting extremism. Akunin is also included in the list of terrorists/extremists by Rosfinmonitoring.

According to 112, Grigory Chkhartishvili (real name Akunin) is accused of spreading fakes about the Russian army and calling for extremist activities.

Earlier, Rosfinmonitoring included the author in the list of terrorists and extremists .
