Hegseth stated that the US maintains control over the Strait of Hormuz despite its closure due to the war. More than 40 countries are preparing a mission to escort civilian vessels.

U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth claimed that the U.S. controls the Strait of Hormuz, despite the fact that the waterway has been effectively closed to shipping for more than two months of war, UNN reports, citing The Guardian.

Speaking at a Senate Defense Subcommittee hearing, Hegseth said: "Ultimately, we control the strait because nothing goes in there that we don't allow. And, believe me, when we look at what Iran thinks about this, they know they can't break through it. And that worries them a lot."
As a reminder
More than 40 countries will hold talks on Monday regarding the creation of an international naval mission to escort vessels through the Strait of Hormuz.
