Leading tech companies are uniting to form the Coalition for Safe Artificial Intelligence (CoSAI). The initiative aims to address AI security issues and develop best practices for its use.

According to an announcement made on Thursday, Google, OpenAI, Microsoft, Amazon, Nvidia, Intel, and other well-known companies in the field of artificial intelligence are joining together to form the Coalition for Safe Artificial Intelligence (CoSAI), UNN reports citing The Verge.

The initiative aims to address the problem of a "fragmented AI security environment" by providing access to open source methodologies, frameworks, and tools.

The publication notes that it is not known what impact CoSAI will have on the artificial intelligence industry, but concerns about leaking confidential information and automatic discrimination come to mind as examples of security, privacy, and safety issues with generative artificial intelligence technology.

Other companies that have joined CoSAI include IBM, PayPal, Cisco, and Anthropic. CoSAI will exist within the framework of the Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards (OASIS), a non-profit group that promotes the development of open standards. CoSAI will initially work on three goals: developing best practices for AI security; solving problems in the AI industry; and securing AI applications.

"We have been using AI for many years and see the continued potential for defenders, but also recognize its opportunities for attackers," Heather Adkins, Google's vice president of security, said in a statement. "CoSAI will help organizations, large and small, integrate AI safely and responsibly, helping them to leverage its benefits while mitigating its risks," she said.
