The cathedral was evacuated, and the prefecture of Primorskaya Sena indicated it as X.
A security perimeter has been set up around the building. Emergency services are working at the scene. It is reported that 63 firefighters are involved, about 33 units of equipment are involved
People were urged to avoid the area to facilitate the response to the incident. Public transportation in the vicinity of the area has been changed.
Work was reportedly underway on the cathedral's spire. The origin of the incident "is unknown at this stage," said Rouen Mayor Nicolas Mayer-Rosignol.
