The children were found lifeless in the afternoon of June 22 in the family car parked near a residential building. According to the prosecutor's office, the final causes of death are to be determined by forensic experts.
Firefighters reported arriving at the scene around 1:20 p.m. and finding two children in cardiac arrest.

According to Le Figaro, it is preliminarily believed that the children may have gotten into the car on their own while their 33-year-old mother was shopping, after which they were unable to get out.

The children's bodies were sent for autopsy to the forensic institute in Nîmes. The mother was hospitalized after the tragedy and has not yet been questioned.
