Speaking at the Vulture Festival on Sunday, Smith revealed that he is working on a sequel to the 1999 comedy drama starring Matt Damon and Ben Affleck.
"Some people will say: "Don't touch it, damn it. You're going to ruin it.' And I'm here to tell you: I will. (...) I found a way in," Smith said.
Smith went on to say that he is confident that Damon and Affleck will return to reprise their roles in one form or another: "Expect them to make cameos - more than just cameos. The only way to make a Dogma sequel is if they're there. So count on these guys to be there.
In Dogma, Damon and Affleck play the fallen angels Loki and Bartleby, respectively, and the film also stars Salma Hayek, Alan Rickman, Chris Rock, Jason Lee and Alanis Morissette, Jason Mewes and Smith.
Speaking about why he is confident that Damon and Affleck will return in Dogma 2, Smith said that their relationship goes back to 1997, when he saved their movie "Smart Will Hunting" from development hell - the film became a critical success. Since then, the pair have returned to Smith, making cameos or starring in several of his films: "I could hold it over both of their heads for 25 fucking years, so they keep appearing in all the movies.
