The SBU has detained a deserter in Kyiv who registered Starlink terminals for the Russian military. The perpetrator faces life imprisonment for high treason.

Cyber specialists of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) have blocked another attempt by the enemy to gain access to Starlink terminals on the territory of Ukraine. As a result of comprehensive measures in Kyiv, an agent of the Russian Federation was detained for illegally registering communication terminals for the Russian military. This was reported by the SBU, according to UNN.
As the investigation established, the tasks for the Russian Federation were carried out by a mobilized individual recruited by the enemy, who had gone AWOL from a military unit in the Kharkiv region. After fleeing the unit, the deserter hid in rented apartments in the capital while simultaneously searching for "quick money" in specialized Telegram channels,
In one of these chats, he caught the attention of the Russian special services, who offered him money in exchange for cooperation.
At their request, the agent first registered a Starlink station in his own name using details provided by a handler from the Russian Federation. Next, he used an acquaintance "in the dark," who, at his request, registered another terminal in her name.
Subsequently, the perpetrator planned to involve about 20 more people to verify satellite communication stations for the armed groups of the aggressor country.
SBU officers thwarted these plans and detained the agent "red-handed" at a branch of one of the postal operators, where he was attempting to register another Starlink.
Currently, all terminals registered by the suspect have been blocked. During a search of his residence, a mobile phone containing evidence of cooperation with the Russian Federation was discovered.
SBU investigators have served him a notice of suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason committed under martial law). The perpetrator is in custody. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
