Conor McGregor underwent knee surgery after an injury at UFC 329

Conor McGregor reported a successful knee surgery following the injury he sustained in his fight against Max Holloway at UFC 329. The fighter has begun his recovery and plans to return to the Octagon. MMA Fighting reports this, UNN writes.

On Wednesday, the former two-division UFC champion briefly spoke about his condition after the surgery. Although the full extent of the injuries was never disclosed, McGregor definitely suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), recovery from which usually takes between 9 and 12 months before he can potentially fight again.

McGregor injured his knee while throwing his first strike in the rematch with Max Holloway at UFC 329.

The Irish star began the fight with a jumping spinning kick, after which he landed awkwardly on his leg. Although he tried to continue the bout, McGregor’s knee would not allow him to do so, and the referee was forced to stop the fight just 66 seconds after the start of the first round.

After a five-year layoff related to the leg fracture he sustained in his previous UFC fight, McGregor’s comeback ended almost as quickly as it began.

McGregor had previously undergone ACL surgery after suffering the same injury in his first fight against Holloway in 2013. At that time, McGregor was able to continue the bout and ultimately won by unanimous decision, after which he underwent surgery to repair the damaged knee.

This time, the injury occurred to the other leg, but McGregor will still have to spend an extended period out of competition due to the recovery process.

At the same time, McGregor stated that he intends to return within a year and has already targeted UFC International Fight Week in 2027 as a possible date for his return. McGregor has one fight remaining on his current UFC contract, and he has made it clear that he plans to contest this final bout before potentially exploring opportunities outside the Octagon.
