Details
The Yangwang U8L went on sale last year as an extended version of the standard flagship plug-in hybrid sport utility vehicle (SUV).
Following the launch of the new Premium (Dingzang) version this week, BYD's ultra-luxury sub-brand called it a "high-end domestic four-seat SUV." The ultra-luxury model starts at 1.458 million yuan, or approximately $216,000.
The new model is 5,400 mm long, 2,049 mm wide, 1,921 mm high, and has a wheelbase of 3,250 mm. This is approximately comparable in size to the Cadillac Escalade and Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600.
Equipped with four electric motors, a 2-liter engine, and a BYD Blade battery with a capacity of 56.58 kWh, the four-seat Yangwang U8L has an electric driving range (CLTC) of 230 km and a combined range of 1,205 km.
It is also equipped with BYD Flash Charging technology, which allows the vehicle's battery to be charged from 10% to 70% in five minutes. A full charge (from 10% to 97%) takes only nine minutes.
The flagship four-seat Yangwang U8L is equipped with BYD God's Eye A driver-assistance system. The ADAS includes a roof-mounted LiDAR and 40 sets of high-precision sensors, enabling navigation in all conditions.
Inside the flagship SUV, the cabin features exclusive gold-toned trim. Three large displays are mounted on the dashboard: one in front of the driver, one serving as the central infotainment screen, and another for the passenger.
The exclusive luxury zero-gravity seats include a powered leg rest and an 18-point massage function. Rear passengers have access to a 21.4-inch entertainment screen that descends from the ceiling.
Yangwang sells plug-in hybrid and fully electric vehicles, including the U7 sedan, U8 SUV, and U9 electric supercar.
BYD plans to launch the Yangwang brand in Europe and the United Kingdom in 2027 to compete with premium brands such as Ferrari, Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, and Range Rover.
