The arch of the Freedom of the Ukrainian People (better known as the Friendship of the Anrodes - ed.) is not planned to be demolished, as it is one of the business cards of the capital of Ukraine. This is stated in a statement of the KCSA Department of Culture, reports UNN.
Details
The city authorities emphasize that the meaning of the Arch will be rethought, and the space near it will receive a new concept.
According to the Department, after the start of the full-scale invasion, the Kyiv City Council decided to rename the Friendship of Peoples Arch to the Freedom of the Ukrainian People Arch.
Also in April of the same year, a Soviet sculpture of two workers, a symbol of the reunification of Ukraine and Russia, was dismantled.
After a professional study and public consultations, the KCSA working group on the removal of memorials related to the history and culture of Russia and the USSR from the public space of Kyiv decided on January 19 this year to preserve the arch of Freedom of the Ukrainian People
Separately, the city council emphasizes that spending significant funds from the city budget to dismantle the arch of "Freedom of the Ukrainian People" is not the most urgent issue today.
The KCSA emphasized that during martial law, the city primarily directs funds to help the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the smooth functioning of the public sector, and addressing the vital needs of Kyiv residents.
Addendum
The agency emphasizes that Kyiv is currently at the final stage of decommunization and de-Russification of objects.
In total, representatives of the Kyiv authorities, together with specialists from specialized institutions of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Institute of National Memory, and experts, compiled a list of 297 memorials related to the history and culture of Russia and the USSR, which were recommended for removal and/or relocation to specially designated storage sites.
Among them are 95 monuments and more than 200 memorial signs and decorative elements.
Recall
The Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine has decided that the Arch of Freedom of the Ukrainian People (Arch of Friendship of Peoples) in Kyiv is no longer a monument, so the monument can be dismantled.
