The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine has begun to improve border roads in Chernivtsi and Zakarpattia regions, with plans to build nearly 700 km of new roads to improve border control and response capabilities.

The construction of border roads has begun in Chernivtsi and Zakarpattia regions. As of today, almost 35 km in the Chernivtsi region and 17 km in Transcarpathia have already been equipped. This was reported by the State Border Guard Service, UNN writes.

The initiative, supported by the government and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, allows the State Border Guard Service to independently build roads along the border with the EU. This will improve control over the territory, prompt response to changes in the situation, and reduce fuel and vehicle maintenance costs.

ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih will provide 70,000 tons of blast furnace slag free of charge to help build the borders in western Ukraine, and Ukrzaliznytsia will deliver it.

As of today, almost 35 km of roads have already been repaired in Chernivtsi region and 17 km in Zakarpattia. We plan to build almost 700 km of new roads.
